The main objective of the consultancy was to carry out the mid-term evaluation of the project “Creation of Sustainable Micro-enterprises in Rural Communities in Suriname through Microfranchises” (ATN / ME-13636-SU). This project is executed by the Foundation for the Development of the Interior (Suriname Fonds Ontwikkeling Binnenland – SFOB) and is partially financed with resources provided by the Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB / MIF).
The aim of the project is to “contribute to increasing the income of the rural population in Suriname by using micro-franchises as a tool to build a network of Yamaha engine maintenance workshops.” The specific objective is “to test and validate a microfinance methodology for the maintenance of engines in the communities of the three inner districts of Suriname.”
The evaluation was carried out taking into account indicators of continuous relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, impact and sustainability, and was developed in areas of very difficult access in the Amazon rainforest, in the interior of Suriname.
